Microsoft has launched Microsoft 365 Premium at $19.99 per month, combining Microsoft 365 Family and Copilot Pro subscriptions while matching the price of OpenAI’s ChatGPT Plus and ending sales of the standalone Copilot Pro plan.

The new subscription includes Office desktop apps for up to six people, 1TB of cloud storage per person, and Microsoft’s highest usage limits for features including GPT-4o image generation, voice, podcasts, deep research, vision and actions, reports The Verge. It also provides access to Researcher and Analyst reasoning agents in Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

“It’s really going to be our most powerful AI and productivity subscription for any individual,” said Gareth Oystryk, senior director of marketing for Copilot Pro and Microsoft 365, in an interview with The Verge. “It brings together our trusted collection of productivity apps with Copilot built in, along with our highest Copilot usage limits and exclusive features.”

Microsoft is enabling consumers to activate AI features in Office apps at work using their personal Premium, Family or Personal subscriptions. Users can sign into their work version of Office with their personal Microsoft account to enable AI features while maintaining enterprise data protection and security measures. IT administrators can enable or disable the functionality.

Existing Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscribers will receive higher usage limits than the free tier for select Copilot features, including GPT-4o image generation and voice, with updates rolling out from today. Copilot Chat, previously available only for commercial customers, is coming to all consumer subscriptions.

“Productivity is our DNA, we’re Office,” said Sumit Chauhan, corporate vice president of Microsoft’s Office Product Group. “While others will try to replicate us, there is no substitute for the real thing.”

Microsoft will stop selling Copilot Pro, but has not set a timeline for discontinuing existing subscriptions. The company is not automatically opting existing Copilot Pro subscribers into Microsoft 365 Premium.
