Meta is launching its new Meta AI app across Europe today, rolling out “Vibes,” a dedicated feed for AI-generated videos.

The company is framing the tool as a fun and “inherently social and collaborative creation experience.” This positive framing stands in stark contrast to the recent existential backlash against rival AI video generators.

Last month, we reported that a veteran tech journalist deleted OpenAI’s Sora app after calling it a “jackhammer that demolishes the barrier between the real and the unreal” and a “ghoulish puppet show” for its ability to create overwhelming fake content.

Creation over chaos?

Meta, however, appears to be betting on creation over chaos. The launch follows a successful debut in the US, where the company reported that media generation within the app “jumped more than tenfold” after Vibes was introduced. Meta also noted that over 20 billion images have been created using its AI tools to date.

The new Meta AI app acts as a central hub, combining three main functions: chatting with the Meta AI assistant, managing AI glasses, and exploring the new Vibes feed.

Vibes itself is a “dedicated surface” where users can create their own AI-generated videos from prompts or remix content shared by others by adding new visuals or music. Content from the feed can be cross-posted to Instagram, Facebook Stories, and Reels.

Alongside the video feed, the app integrates AI-powered text prompting for conversations, tools for generating and animating images from text, and AI-powered photo editing.
